Local Area Info
Here at Rize we pride ourselves for being based
in the harbour town of Bristol. Bristol sits on
the estuary of the River Severn, surrounded by stately Georgian
mansions dating back to the 18th century. A city of culture and
class, as well as a busy port and important economic centre, Bristol
is the home of Rolls Royce and many other eminent British companies.
During the spring, Bristol blooms with its many city parks full
of flowers and the streets full of their perfume.
Travel to Bristol
Flights into Bristol International Airport arrive from all over the world. The airport is located to the south of the city and is also serviced by a number of budget airlines such as, RyanAir and Flybe. In addition, Bristol is located half-way between Cardiff and London, so several international airports are within a reasonable driving distance from the city. Trains connect Bristol via its two main stations (Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Park Way) to other cities in England and Europe.
What to see and do
The Clifton Suspension Bridge, built by Bristol born Isambard Kingdom Brunel crosses the Avon Gorge hundreds of feet in the air, was awe-inspiring when it was built in 1864 and is still incredible today. Near the bridge are the Bristol Clifton Observatory and Caves where there is a great collection of Victorian lenses as well as superb views over Avon Gorge.
The area around Bristol Harbour has seen extensive renovations over the past few years and is now a vibrant centre for social life featuring a large number of cosy cafés and chic shopping options. It’s the best place to stop at a bistro or find a good restaurant. In addition, the Harbour is home to the SS Great Britain, the world’s first iron steamship.
The Bristol Cathedral and St Mary Redcliffe Church are both historical buildings of significance with long histories and notable architecture. For a more active afternoon, picnic in Queen square, the largest square in England, or enjoy the natural habitats at Bristol Zoo and Gardens.
Local Activities
Nightlife in Bristol is fairly laid back although the students of the University of Bristol make sure things stay lively. Most of the evening entertainment options in Bristol are located near the harbour side, King Street and Whiteladies Road and include traditional pubs, cocktail bars and the usual dance clubs. Bristol has some great theatre and no lack of live music, from jazz to house-spinning DJs.
